DELMAR-Bernadette J. (nee Foley) Setzer, 95, of Heritage House, Troy, passed away peacefully on Sunday night August 7, 2016. She was born in Brooklyn, the devoted daughter of George S. and Mae (Overholthaus) Foley; beloved wife for 57 years of Charles; cherished mother of Veronica “Ronnie” (Arthur) Siegel and the late Regina Bosch; loving grandmother to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister of the late George Foley, Jr. and Claire Oerzen.
Bernadette dedicated her life to sharing kindness and providing comfort. Every morning, she prayed she would be able to give a helping hand and each evening she thanked God in the memory of her late husband for helping her navigate her day.She was truly a remarkable person. She enjoyed many activities, but excelled at being a hospice volunteer on Long Island for ten years.Bernadette worked in the insurance business both in NYC and Long Island for more than 50 years.
She will be remembered for her total devotion to family and friends, her generous smile and delightful laugh, and her ability to stay positive in the face of tragedy and loss.Her life was an example of one person touching and impacting so many lives through her authenticity of spirit and generosity of good will.
We thank the staff of Heritage House, especially the third floor for their compassion, support, and friendship.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Delmar.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Bernadette’s family prior to the Mass from 8:30 am.
Interment will be at 2:30 pm in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, Pastoral Care Program, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar, NY 12054.
