ALBANY- Salvatore L. Sgroi, 83 died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his residence. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Salvadore and Anna (Urbano) Sgroi and graduated from Albany High School. Mr. Sgroi was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict.He was District Sales Manager with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company when he retired in 1995 after 34 years of service to the company. Mr. Sgroi, along with his wife, Ronnie owned and operated the Tourmates Travel Agency in Kingston for 30 years.He was a longtime member of the Kingston Rotary Club and Communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Kingston. He led an active lifestyle enjoying tennis, cooking and traveling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica “Ronnie” (Keenan) Sgroi. Their love and commitment to one another for 62 years was evident to all who met them.; children; Kathleen Magid, Robert (Wynitia) Sgroi, Michele (Anthony) DiPiazza, Salvatore (late Julie) Sgroi, Rosemary (Jeffrey) Levy, Patricia (Dominick) Trimarchi, William (Carol) Sgroi, Mary Jo (Leonard) Mazur and Laurie (Kevin) Maxwell; his sisters Theresa Gizzi and Sr. Rosemary Sgroi, rsm, 25 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 10 am in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Latham. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Wednesday January 7, 2015 from 4-7 pm. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Catholic Charities, 40 North Main Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
