Simmons, Joseph A.

AVERILL PARK - Joseph A. Simmons, 60, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. Born and educated in Albany he was the son of the late Patrick H. and Winifred H. (Maloy) Simmons. Joe worked for the Averill Park School District for 12 years. He loved spending time with family, camping and gambling at the casinos.

He is the husband of Margaret “Maggie”(Ellis) Simmons; father of John (Karen), Joseph, Jr., Stacy (Chuckie), Danielle (Maurice), Amber (Joe) and the late Darcey; brother of Maryhelen (Lawrence) Nardolillo, Patrick (Diane) Simmons, Christine (James Tupper) Simmons, Garry (Anne) Simmons, Robert Simmons, Suzanne Simmons and the late Michael Simmons, “Sissy” (Tony) Courcelle and Barbara Jean Simmons. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Hospice and the staff at Samaritan Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joe’s family on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave., Albany.
