Albany – Pamela Ann Slyer-O’Bryan, 72, of Albany NY, passed away suddenly at her residence, January 12, 2016. She was born in 1943 and was the daughter of the late Florence and George Slyer.
She was a communicant of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, Western Ave, Albany.
Pam met her soulmate James O’Bryan in 1987, married on June 10, 1989 and enjoyed a loving union of nearly 25 years. They enjoyed trips to Lake George and visits with family. Pam was Jim’s loving partner and primary caregiver up until his passing in May of 2014.
She and Jim both volunteered at the Focus food pantry in Albany for many years, and Pam continued this endeavor right up to the present. Pam was also an avid supporter and participant of the CROP Hunger Walk, raising money each year for this worthy cause.
Pam was retired from New York State Department of Motor Vehicle and enjoyed crafting. Her projects were displayed at many craft fairs in the area. Pam was proud to be a foster parent for many years to a child overseas as part of an international fostering program. She wrote to and supported one special boy from his very young age through his teens.
Pam is survived by her brothers George (the late Florentine) Slyer Jr. of Troy, Timothy (Ellen) Slyer of Troy, William (Nancy) Slyer of Troy and her sister Janice (Anthony) Videtto of Fort Ann. Her nieces and nephews include: George Slyer III, John Slyer, Charles Slyer, Jason Slyer, Mark Slyer, Andrea Slyer MacCreery, Sarah Slyer and Ann Slyer. Pam cherished and loved her ten grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.
She was also loved by her step children: Theodore (Holley) O’Bryan, Sean O’Bryan, Laura Kellar and Margaret (Sean) Trask as well as their children, who all referred to her as Nana Pam.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 5-8 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 8:45 am from the funeral home thence to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 916 Western Avenue for a service at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at 12 Noon in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, Pam has requested that donations be made to Focus Food Pantry of Albany, 275 State Street Albany, NY 12210.
