Loudonville – Bernard E. “Bernie” Tholl, 87, died peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.

Born in Albany, NY to Lulu (Webster) and Bernard H. Tholl, he was the brother of Jean (Tholl) Hicks, who passed away in 1996, and Joseph, who died at birth in 1939.

Bernie served in the Army during World War II in the 33rd Infantry, Fort Clayton, Panama as a cook and baker. After his service, he returned to the Albany area and worked for printing companies, retiring from Clarity Publishing in 1989. Prior to meeting his wife Mary (Kelly), who predeceased him in 2007, he spent much of his time in Egremont, MA and enjoyed 50 years of flying at the Great Barrington Airport, now known as Walter Koladza Airport.

During his almost 50-year marriage, Bernie spent many hours fixing things in his shop and around the house and yard. Bernie and Mary enjoyed many train trips and vacations in the U.S. and Canada. They were faithful parishioners at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.

Bernie is survived by his daughters, Judi Tholl of Loudonville and Barbara (Tholl) Hennigan and son-in-law Jeff Hennigan of West Yarmouth, MA; his grandchildren, Cpl. Corey E. Hennigan, USMC, Okinawa, Japan; Tess W. Tholl of Loudonville; and Adam J. Hennigan of West Yarmouth; his brother-in-law John E. Kelly, Jr. and wife Marie and family; cousins Jim Mahoney and Rich Cadier and Mike and Mary Ann Mahoney.

Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

The family would like to thank all of Bernie’s lifelong friends for their support, kindness and friendship, as well as Colleen Sheehan, RN, Crystal Carroll, RN, the Eddy VNA and his aides Terry Rourke, Kelsey Porter and Mike Lavateer and the staff at the Hospice Inn for taking such wonderful care of him.
