ALBANY- Rey F. Torres, 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico he is the beloved son of Felicita Quinones of Albany and the late Emilio Torres. Mr. Torres came to New York City with his family in the late 1960’s. He earned his degree in history from Syracuse University in 1981 and settled in the Albany area in 1983. Mr. Torres was the Director of NYS Division of Human Rights for more than 25 years, retiring in 2008.
He was a member of the Delmar Full Gospel Church, an avid reader and baseball enthusiast (Go NY Mets!) and enjoyed science fiction, especially Star Trek.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his devoted wife, Joanne Torres; two beloved daughters, Amy Torres-Lawyer and Sarah Torres; cherished grandson, Avier Herrera-Suarez; brother Emilio Torres; sisters, Rita and Evelyn Torres; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
