ALBANY- Stephen “Ven” Vardin, 58, died at St. Peter’s Hospice on December 5 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 11, 1955, the son of Stephen Vardin and Barbara (Houck) Vardin. Ven is survived by his wife, Susan (Mel) Gallagher of Guilderland; his brother, Tom Vardin, and nephew, Eric Vardin, both of Albany. He is also survived by a large circle of extended family and close friends.
Ven graduated from high school at Wilbraham & Monson Academy in 1973, where he excelled in mathematics. He was a 1981 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, where he was involved with numerous action groups. He had a deep concern for the environment, foreign affairs, government, and world peace. Ven built and owned for over 20 years a successful bookkeeping and tax preparation business, Stephen Vardin & Colleagues. He loved helping his clients start their own businesses and was well respected.. His recreational passions were golf and disc golf, where he was instrumental in the development of Stoney Kill Disc Golf Course in Chatham, New York. No one loved golf sports more than Ven. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues from his personal, professional and recreational lives. A private burial service for friends and family will be announced at a later date.
