GLENMONT- Gary J. Weinert, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 4, 2019.
Born in Cleveland, OH he was the son of the late Jack Weinert and Norma Chilewich.
He graduated from Viewpoint Prepatory School in Amenia, NY and the Albany College of Pharmacy. Gary owned and operated several businesses in the Capital District including Klein’s Pharmacy, Lauryn’s Hallmark Shoppe and the Paper Mill Hallmark Store.
He was an avid volleyball player and coach. He played high school and college basketball, and he was a lifelong Ohio State and Cleveland sports fan.
His fondest memories include boating at his summer home on the Great Sacandaga Lake, spending his winters in Naples, Florida and having fun with his grandchildren as often as he could.
He was the husband of 56 years to Patricia Quinn Weinert; father of Lauri (Andrew) Mendleson, Karyn (Kevin) Barry and Craig (Theresa) Weinert all of Glenmont; grandfather of Zachary and Steven Mendleson, Matthew and Kylie McKenna, Emily, Jack, Jessica, Julia Weinert and Aidan McGonigle; brother of Melvin, David and Sandy Chilewich. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Renetta (Lulu) Bynum for all the care and compassion given to Gary and his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Tuesday, January 8th from 4-7 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Gary’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday January 9th at 10 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
