ALBANY- Elizabeth “Betty” M. Williams, passed away December 8, 2020 just before her 96th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward T. “Rocky” Williams, daughter of the late John Allison and Isabel (DesForge) Allison and sister of the late John and Donald Allison.
Betty was a true South ender – strong right up till the end. Her stories of the good old days were always interesting and funny no matter how many times she repeated them.
Betty first used theskills she learned out of St. Ann’s High School working as a telephone operator for NY Telephone Company. After her girls were old enough, she used those skills and went back to work as the switchboard operator for “Uncle Dave Marks” at Fort Orange Radio then to RTA and to her last position with the City of Albany Parks Department as a telephone operator.
When questioned why she was living a long life her response was “the devil does not want me and the good Lord is not ready for me”.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she would sing “I love you a bushel and a peck”.
She is survived by her daughters Carol (Late Jerry) Logue and Susan (Wayne) Goergen; grandchildren Jeffrey (Kelly) Goergen, Kristin (Matthew) Kurick, andGloria Lorenzi; her great-grandchildren Emily Goergen and Allison Kurick; also survived by several nieces and nephews and as she always said a “S” load of cousins.
Per Betty’s wishes there are no services.
A special thanks to the staff at St. Peters 4 McAuley and Evergreen NH for their care and compassion.
Donations inhonor of Bettycan be made to her favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
