LOUDONVILLE-Joseph A. Zappone, 80, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Albany, he was the only son of the late Joseph A. Zappone and Bessie (Nardolillo) Zappone. Joseph graduated from Cathedral Academy where he was an accomplished athlete, named to All-Albany teams in basketball, and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Joe was a member of Laborers Local 190 for over 40 years. He began his career as a laborer, served as Administrator and Director at the Tri-City’s Laborer’s Training Center in Glenmont, New York for over 20 years. He retired as the Business Manager of Local 190.
He was a communicant of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Loudonville. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years Elizabeth A. (MacGowan) Zappone, and his sisters Dolores Myers and Tina Germain.
He is survived by his children, Gina (Kenneth) Szesnat, Christine Zappone (Michael Gilroy), Joseph Zappone III, and Elizabeth Zappone; grandchildren, Allison Szesnat, Michael Zappone, Kenneth (Lauren) Szesnat, Jr., Joseph Zappone
IV, Carl Zappone, Matthew Zappone, Jacqueline Szesnat and Christopher Lenaghan; great-grandson, Carter Szesnat. Also survived by his sisters, Anne Trombley, Edith Brady and Rosalie Cilwick; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and faithful friend Patrick McKenna.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., thence to Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Christ Our Light Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
